Ford has officially unveiled its Expedition configurator, inviting consumers to personalize their own 2025 model-year SUV. In tandem with the civilian rollout, the company has also opened orders for the 2025 Ford Expedition Special Service Vehicle (SSV), marking a noteworthy occasion as Ford celebrates 75 years of partnership with law enforcement agencies.
“Duty is the cornerstone of what our esteemed law enforcement clients uphold,” remarked Lindsey Bertino, the police brand marketing manager. “The standard Expedition SSV is constructed to align with that ethos.”
### A Comprehensive Transformation for the 2025 Expedition
The fifth generation of the Ford Expedition significantly enhances the full-size SUV, expanding its allure to families in pursuit of spacious versatility. These same attributes also make the vehicle advantageous for police departments. Each Expedition comes equipped with a robust 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, delivering an impressive 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Notably, four-wheel drive (4WD) is standard, complemented by a two-speed transfer case featuring Touch on Demand and 4-Auto modes.
In terms of towing capabilities, police-configured Expeditions include advanced technologies such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and comprehensive blind-spot monitoring for both cross-traffic and trailer coverage. These features collectively ensure that officers achieve seamless and secure hookups every time.
### Enhanced Interior Features for Law Enforcement Use
Gone are the days of bare-bones interiors; the 2025 Expedition modernizes its cabin to cater to both civilian and police roles. It retains an expansive 24-inch central display alongside a supporting dashboard screen, seamlessly integrating wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As one progresses down the center stack, a series of USB ports and 4WD controls are conveniently located next to lighting, siren controls, and police radio interfaces. Designed for prolonged periods of use, the cloth seats are intended to offer comfort to officers on duty.
In a notable update, the 2025 Ford Expedition introduces a split tailgate—a feature unique to large SUVs—which is powered in the civilian version. While Ford has yet to clarify its specification in police models, such accessibility is crucial for officers requiring quick retrieval of equipment like stop sticks during urgent situations.
### Reflecting on a Legacy of Service
The launch of the 2025 Expedition SSV coincides with Ford’s historical commitment to law enforcement, which traces back to the 1950 Ford Custom Police Package.
“For 75 years, we have collaborated with law enforcement communities, and we extend our gratitude to the agencies, officers, and Ford employees who have contributed to the design and manufacturing of America’s most sought-after police vehicles,” said Bertino.
Today, Ford’s police vehicle portfolio includes two electric models, the F-150 and the hybrid Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer), alongside the newly introduced 2025 Expedition SSV. This model is set to vie with competitors like the Chevrolet Tahoe PPV and Dodge Durango Pursuit as it addresses the needs of police departments in search of larger vehicles.
