Lexus NX450h+ Plug-In Hybrid SUV Now Open for Orders in Australia

The Lexus NX450h+ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is back on the market in Australia, marking a significant development for the luxury automaker. Lexus Australia has announced that it has successfully fulfilled all previous orders for this mid-sized SUV, ensuring a steady supply for prospective buyers.

According to company officials, this brief pause in order acceptances was instrumental in bolstering PHEV availability through 2025 and beyond. "We are grateful to the many customers who placed orders and appreciate their loyalty and patience," remarked Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas. "We also extend our gratitude to those who expressed interest in the NX plug-in hybrid during this interim period."

The temporary halt in orders was a strategic decision aimed at aligning dealer expectations and enhancing the overall customer experience. Pappas further stated, "We have been working closely with our production teams in Japan to guarantee that we can meet demand moving forward."

The NX450h+ is available in a single trim: the F Sport, which comes equipped with the Enhancement Pack 2. This premium variant is priced at $95,900, excluding on-road costs. Additionally, Lexus Australia is expected to announce whether it will introduce a larger plug-in hybrid model, the RX450h+, early next year.

Earlier this year, in March 2023, Lexus suspended orders for the NX450h+, accepting only expressions of interest during that time. However, the company confirmed plans to reopen orders by the end of this year.

Under the hood, the NX450h+ features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors, an 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT). This combination results in a total system output of 227 kW, making it the most powerful variant in Lexus’s current lineup.

Lexus claims the NX450h+ offers an impressive electric-only range of 87 kilometers, alongside a remarkable combined fuel economy of just 1.3 liters per 100 kilometers. As of September 2023, the company has delivered 281 units of the NX450h+ to eager customers.
