In a bold bid to redefine the minivan segment, Chrysler is set to propel its Pacifica model into the electric age. The introduction of the plug-in hybrid variant in 2017 signaled a fresh direction for the brand, and now that momentum is poised to escalate with the forthcoming all-electric Pacifica.

Christine Feuell, Chrysler’s CEO, confirmed to Green Car Reports that the electric iteration of the Pacifica will maintain the model’s name, aligning with the automaker’s ambitious goal of transitioning to an all-electric lineup by 2028.

A Vision for Electric Minivans

Chrysler, the pioneer of the minivan category, has long been contemplating the electrification of this versatile vehicle. In a 2022 discussion, Feuell emphasized the critical role minivans play in family life, particularly highlighting the demand for all-wheel drive and sufficient range to alleviate consumer concerns about battery life.

"A range of 400 miles appears to be the optimal expectation among drivers eager to sidestep range anxiety," Feuell remarked.

While the electric Pacifica’s launch is still in the future, the existing PHEV version will undergo a design refresh in 2026 to remain competitive and appealing.

The Road Ahead: Chrysler’s EV Strategy

Chrysler’s inaugural electric vehicle, the Airflow, is anticipated to debut in the 2025 model year as a compact crossover built on the STLA platform. Initial estimates suggest it could deliver an impressive range of up to 440 miles, placing it in direct competition with notable electric models such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.

Filling a Gap in the EV Market

Currently, the offerings of three-row electric vehicles are limited, making the upcoming Pacifica EV a significant contender against rivals like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. While the Chrysler Pacifica made a notable impact upon its debut in 2017, its presence has become somewhat lackluster in recent years. With Chrysler’s lineup consisting of just three models, two of which are minivans, there exists ample opportunity for innovation.
