Korean luxury automaker Genesis is making a bold statement with the introduction of its G80 Black, marking a notable shift from the brand’s characteristic aesthetic of bright metallic accents.

Scheduled to debut in Australia in 2025, this model represents the fourth iteration of the brand’s “black-out” styling approach, though it will be the first to hit the Australian market.

A defining feature of the G80 Black is its all-encompassing blacked-out exterior, which includes everything from the front grilles and emblems to the window and bumper trims. The redesign extends to the headlights, where the inner bezels have been darkened, as has the cover for the forward radar system. Notably, while the rear lettering has been given a darker finish, it sports a deep grey rather than pure black.

The vehicle is equipped with striking 20-inch wheels that feature a gloss black finish, complemented by eye-catching floating center caps.

Step inside the G80 Black, and it becomes clear that the theme of darkness prevails in the cabin as well. The interior is cloaked in black, encompassing a striking dashboard and plush quilted upholstery. Even the buttons and switches on the dashboard and center console have been designed to blend seamlessly into this monochromatic scheme. Speaker grilles, badging, sill plates, and paddle shifters follow suit, all finished in black.

In a departure from typical gloss-black inlays, Genesis opts for an elegant touch with real wood trim featuring a black finish, adding sophisticated contrast to the otherwise dark interior ambiance.

While Genesis has yet to disclose pricing or detailed specifications for its Australian G80 Black, it is important to note that earlier this year the G80 underwent a subtle exterior refresh, paired with a revamped interior that now boasts a striking 27-inch display.

The lineup continues to offer two robust engine options: a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine.

An updated version of the Electrified G80—Genesis’s all-electric sedan—is also on the horizon, set to arrive in Australia in 2025.

In terms of sales, Genesis recorded 57 G80 units sold in Australia during 2024, placing it just behind the Audi A7’s 60 units, but trailing significantly behind the more established Audi A6 (280 units), BMW 5 Series (614 units), and Mercedes-Benz E-Class (381 units).
