A Nissan GT-R owner is facing a significant consequence for excessive speed, as the high-performance vehicle will remain impounded for the next three months, and the driver’s license has been revoked for a duration of six months. This action follows an incident on a Sydney motorway where the driver was recorded traveling at nearly double the lawful speed.
On Sunday, December 8, officers from the Bankstown Highway Patrol observed the Nissan GT-R cruising at 125 km/h along the M5 Motorway in Revesby, where the maximum speed limit is set at 100 km/h. However, the situation escalated dramatically when the vehicle was seen accelerating to a staggering 189 km/h.
Typically, such an infraction would result in a fine of $542 and the accumulation of four demerit points. Yet, the severity of this case warranted more stringent repercussions.
Following the speed violations, police were able to track down the owner at their residence, where both the driver and the car were identified. The driver received an immediate six-month suspension of their license along with an imposing fine of $2,794.
In addition, the Nissan GT-R was subject to impoundment for three months, and the driver’s license plates were confiscated.
Notably, it is important to point out that New South Wales law enforcement does not possess the authority to seize and destroy vehicles implicated in reckless driving offenses, differing from practices in several other Australian states.
